About Ashish

I’m Ashish Gupta. I tend to enter things rather than plan my way into them. A lot of my life has unfolded that way — I’ve found myself in new pursuits, new places, relationships and ways of living without always knowing where they would lead. I’ve learned to let things arrive, and when something catches my attention, to give myself to it fully.

I write for much the same reason. I’m drawn more to staying with things for a while than to defining them. An experience can remain an experience before it becomes something, and a question can remain a question. I leave things where they are for a little longer, paying attention to them, and seeing what unfolds.

Apart from writing, I move around a little — Calisthenics, rackets, long walks, running, inline skates and whatever else happens to catch me at the right moment. There isn’t necessarily a grand plan behind any of it. I enter, I participate, I pay attention and I follow it through.
